RE: Anyone Heading to Myrtle Beach, SC for the 4th?

Ron44, it is a great life but I do dread this week. This is the week that MB is just to crowded. I tend to "lay low" and let the "vactioners" have their week. At Ocean Lakes between the 900 campsites and 2500 beach home rentals, it is a zoo. If a rv sleeps 4 usually, there will be 8 in it this week. If a beach house sleeps 10, there will be 20!! Add to all of this the number of bikes, golf carts, scooters, and small electric motorcyles that are in here, it is just crazy. Thank goodness it is only for a week. And BTW, it might be the end of October before we leave. Love this place in Oct!!!!!

RE: Suggestions for blocking dogs off in camper

We also use a Xpen in our motohome. We put it up on the tile floor in the kitchen area where our 2 small dogs are then confined to that area and the hallway to the bedroom. We have plexeglass that is placed at the doorway to the bedroom so they cannot go in there. We place their dog bed, water and food in the area. I usually put the dog bed out first and as soon as I do, they know the drill and get on it. This has worked out well for us.

RE: Witnessed Substantial decrease in travel?

We are at Ocean Lakes Campground in Myrtle Beach and have been since March. Since the 3rd week of March the campground has been full - 900 sites. Over spring breaks, which were 6 weeks long, there were people from NY, Mass, Ohio, Maryland and of course SC, NC, GA, etc. This place stays full. Only 2 months, Jan and Feb, are slow. I have noticed the beach house rentals are down this year but the campground is booming.

RE: Myrtle Beach, Cell Service

I'm going to chime in also. We are at Ocean Lakes and have been here since 1st of March. All was well with Verizon until 3 weeks ago. Still great throughout the park and at MH but on the beach, have no service to call but can receive calls. So go figure. Other Verizon members have had the same problem. There is a tower nearby so don't know what is going on. Again, the only problem for me has been trying to make a call on the beach no matter how many times I move around, it is to no avail.

RE: Must do's in Sedona, AZ

Do a hot air balloon ride. We did and it was wonderful. Seeing the red rocks from above really made our trip. Also the Pink Jeep trip - very good.

RE: Anybody Use the Portable Exersise Pens?

We take 2 xpens for our 2 samll dogs and they work perfect! We also use one in the MH to confine them in the kitchen/hallway area when we leave them in the MH.

RE: Traveling with Dog - Sight Seeing

If we are going to be gone for less than3/4 hours, our 2 small dogs are confined to an area of the MH and are left alone with blinds down, a/c on and radio on to mask any outside noise. We know this is effective because we tend to be at beach front campgrounds more than anywhere and stay in the campground all day. We can return to our MH but not go inside and they are never making any noise. However we do not like to leave them alone more than a few hours at a time. If we plan on being gone longer, we have a pet stroller that we use and they go with us. When they go with us, if we cannot use the pet stroller then we just by pass the attraction or area. We are pet responsible and we want our dogs and our campground neighbors to be happy.

You could also go to Oak Hollow city park in High Point. Great sites, on the water and very close to you.

RE: Why Dog Owners get a bad reputation "rant"

Believe it or not, some of the poop could be from cats. We are in Ocean Lakes and this weekend we had poop on our site and mat. Of course, we "assumed" it was dog poop. However, I noticed a cat that was drinking milk from a bowl that a well meaning person had put out for the stray and then he proceeded to come over to our site to do his business! So, just a FYI, if there are stray cats in your campground, it might not be from a dog!!!

RE: Golf Cart Danger for Dogs

I am so sorry to hear of your friends lost of her puppy. We do ride our 2 Maltese in a golf cart but we always have their harness' on and my hands are firmly up underneath the harness. I believe, no matter how laid back a dog is, something could spoof them and a serious accident could happen.

RE: Ocean Lakes - Myrtle

Just remember most of the seafood restaurants around here are no different than your hometown - not local seafood. Alot of people like the buffet style restaurants. Since we don't do them, can't recommend any. Howwever, Crabby Mikes seems to be recommended alot on this topic.

RE: Ah yes the Trials and Tribulations of a full-timer....:)

Isn't the famous words from fulltimers "when you don't like the neighbors, we have wheels and can move." Sounds like it's time to move to another site or campground!

Goose Creek Resort is on the Bogue Sound but not on the ocean. You might want to check it out. It isn't that far from the Holiday Trav L Park. We have stayed there many times.

RE: How is Myrtle Beach beach repleneshment going?

It is being finshed this week at Ocean Lakes. The renourishment of the pumping of the sand has been completed. There is more area of sand on the beach, but at this time, there is also a steep drop off to the water. However as the tide comes in and out, it will continue to make the drop off smaller and smaller. This week they have been putting drain pipes in and are almost finished with this project.

RE: golf cart battries

It depends on the brand of battery and the grade of battery. The age of the battery is also a factor.Loss of run time is a very good indicator. On the negative post of the Trojan batteries you will see a letter and a number, the letter is the month and the number is the date. A E3 would be may of 2003.Four to six years is about average time for your golf car batteries.

Two wise Ones - hate you have decided not to go to Biltmore. Have fun in Williamsburg and Busch Gardens - we have been to both - they are ok - wouldn't return to either.

RE: Persalina needs surgery, UPDATE

Dawn and Kevin, I'm sorry for the news. As stated in the other post, I certainly understand what you are going through. Have you ask your vet if there are meds that you can give Persalina that would help with "comfort care?" With Bunny, due to so many medical issues, we elected not to put her through surgery for the tumor on the bladder (at her age and the health issues, our vet wasn't even sure she would make it through surgery.) We instead just gave her many meds daily for "comfort care." She was spunky until the day we had to put her down. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
